3-Way Dachshund Carrier – Wear It Front, Back, or Carry It by Hand

Most dog carriers are designed around a compact, round-bodied dog — fold a dachshund into one and its back half either can't stretch out or its legs jam against the wall. HiDREAM's dachshund carrier is 14% longer than a standard small-dog bag — 56cm of body length versus the usual 40cm — purpose-built for dachshunds, sausage dogs, and other long-body breeds so they can lie fully extended from neck to tail, with a reserved "short-limb zone" on either side for their legs to curl naturally.

It carries three ways: clip the dual straps for a front carry so your dog rests against your chest where you can see and reach them easily, switch to backpack-style for hands-free wear on longer walks, or grab the top handles for a quick hand-carry in and out of the car or vet's office.

The interior cushion isn't flat — it's zoned and shaped to transition from high to low, giving the chest and lumbar spine even support along the whole length of the body instead of leaving the middle unsupported. A dedicated head-support zone lifts the front, while the shaped padding gives paws a grip point and stops your dog sliding around when the bag shifts — protecting their joints on the move.

Dachshunds carry their weight differently too — light in the head, heavier through the hips. HiDREAM's rear-weighted design shifts the bag's centre of gravity back, with a thickened tail-end cushion that balances the bag horizontally so it never tips toward your dog's head, whether you're wearing it on your front or your back.

Airflow is built in at both ends: the top opens fully into a high-density mesh door for natural airflow and a clear view out (durable enough to resist scratching and chewing), while a drawstring tail opening lets your dog's tail poke through on warm days — cinch it down to as little as 3cm, or stow the drawstring away in the front webbing when it's not needed. A U-shaped low opening (18cm) on the top and side means short-legged breeds like dachshunds can climb in and out without needing to be lifted over a high lip.

Underneath, the base is reinforced with waterproof, scratch-resistant Oxford fabric, high-density pearl cotton for shock absorption, and a 5mm composite fibre board that keeps the bag rigid and flat — so it won't sag or lose shape even with an active dog moving around inside.

A front zip pocket holds treats, toys, or a power bank; the 2cm air-cotton interior lining protects your dog's coat from friction; and a built-in anti-escape safety buckle pairs with a collar or harness to keep them secure.

  • 3 ways to carry — front carry, backpack-style, or hand-carry by the top handles
  • Purpose-built for dachshunds & long-body breeds — 14% longer than a standard small-dog carrier
  • Zoned interior cushion — high-to-low shaped padding supports chest, lumbar spine and head; reserved side space for legs to curl
  • Rear-weighted, balanced design — thickened tail cushion keeps the bag horizontal in any carry position
  • Full-open mesh top door — high-density, bite- and scratch-resistant mesh for airflow and visibility
  • Drawstring tail opening — adjustable from fully closed to letting the tail out, cinches down to 3cm
  • U-shaped low opening (18cm) — easy in-and-out access for short-legged dogs
  • Reinforced base — Oxford fabric + high-density pearl cotton + 5mm composite fibre board, won't sag or deform
  • Front zip pocket — for treats, toys, or a power bank
  • 2cm air-cotton lining — protects your dog's coat from chafing
  • Built-in anti-escape safety buckle — pairs with your dog's collar or harness
  • Size F: 56 × 17 × 24cm · Net weight: ~1521g · Colour: Chestnut Brown

Pair it with a dog harness so the anti-escape buckle has a secure attachment point. Travelling by car too? See our Console Pet Carrier range for the ride, and browse the full pet travel carriers & bags collection. Not sure about sizing? Check our FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear this on my back like a backpack, or does it only go on the front?

Both — and you can also carry it by the top handles like a tote. The dual straps adjust for front-carry (against your chest) or backpack-style wear, and the rear-weighted design keeps the bag balanced in either position.

Is this carrier really different from a regular dog carrier bag?

Yes. Standard small-dog carriers are built around a compact, round body shape. This dachshund carrier is 14% longer (56cm vs a standard 40cm), with a zoned cushion and reserved side space so a long-body dog can lie fully extended instead of curling up against the walls.

What size dog does this fit?

Size F is recommended for dogs up to 8kg — dachshunds and other long-body small breeds.

Can my dog's tail stick out?

Yes — the tail end has a drawstring mesh opening that adjusts from fully closed down to 3cm, so your dog can have their tail out on warm days.

Is it easy for a dachshund to get in and out on its own?

Yes — the U-shaped 18cm low opening on the top and side is designed for short-legged breeds, so your dog doesn't need to be lifted over a high lip.
