Description

Not Every Cat Wants to Be Looked At

Most large pet backpacks put a clear bubble on the front, which is lovely for passers-by and stressful for a lot of cats. The HiDREAM Large Pet Travel Backpack does the opposite: a full-width roll-down curtain across the front that you can leave open for a confident pet, or roll down to give a nervous one a quiet, shaded space — out of the sun and out of the crowd's eyeline. A velcro buckle holds the curtain neatly rolled when you don't need it.

Room for a Pet Up to 8kg

At 36.5 × 24.5 × 43cm this is a genuinely tall, wide capsule — enough for a pet up to 8kg to stand up, turn around, sit and lie flat rather than being folded into one position. EVA panels are built into the shell so it holds its shape instead of collapsing inwards on them, and an L-shaped internal support keeps the floor level when the bag is on your back, so your pet isn't bracing against a tilted surface for the whole trip.

A Front Door That Opens All the Way Down

Two zips run the full front, so the panel drops open to ground level into a soft padded mat. At a picnic or a rest stop your pet can lie half-in, half-out on their own bedding instead of being lifted out onto the grass. The front mesh window also opens on its own, so worn on your chest you can watch them, reach in for a pat or pass a treat through.

Three Sides of Mesh, One Solid Floor

Zip openings on the front and both sides create real cross-flow ventilation rather than one stuffy panel, all in high-density nylon mesh that stays clear enough to see through. Underneath, a composite fibreboard base holds 5 litres of water without bowing — so it certainly won't sag under a cat.

Built for the Person Carrying It

The bag weighs 1334g, so the back panel matters: 3cm of air cotton with a vented mesh channel down the middle, plus adjustable S-shaped padded straps wrapped in sandwich mesh. A sleeve on the back slides over the handle of a 24–28 inch suitcase, or takes a car seat belt through it to stop the bag sliding around. Outside there's segmented daisy-chain webbing for clipping on a fan or a silicone bowl, a large front pocket for treats, toys and a power bank, and an internal safety clip for a collar or harness.

Features

1. Full-width roll-down front curtain gives a nervous pet a shaded, private space instead of a see-through bubble.

2. Velcro roll-up buckle holds the curtain neatly stowed when you want it open.

3. Front panel opens on two zips all the way to ground level, onto a soft padded mat for rest stops.

4. Front mesh window opens separately — wear it on your chest and watch, pat or feed them through it.

5. Zip mesh openings on the front and both sides for genuine cross-flow ventilation.

6. High-density nylon mesh that stays clear enough to see through and holds up to claws.

7. 36.5 × 24.5 × 43cm interior — a pet up to 8kg can stand, sit, turn around and lie flat.

8. EVA panels embedded in the shell so the bag holds its shape and doesn't collapse inwards.

9. L-shaped internal support keeps the floor level while the bag is on your back.

10. Composite fibreboard base tested to hold 5 litres of water without bowing.

11. 3cm air-cotton back panel with a vented mesh channel to cut the sweaty patch.

12. Adjustable S-shaped padded shoulder straps wrapped in sandwich breathable mesh.

13. Rear sleeve slides over a 24–28 inch suitcase handle, or takes a car seat belt through it.

14. Segmented daisy-chain webbing outside for clipping on a portable fan or silicone bowl.

15. Large front pocket for treats, toys and a power bank.

16. Internal anti-escape clip for a collar or harness.

Choosing the right size ensures your pet's comfort and safety.
Always measure your dog or cat carefully before placing an order.

How to Measure

Use a soft measuring tape to wrap around your pet's neck (A) and chest (B).
Place two fingers between the tape and your pet’s body to ensure a comfy fit.
If between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size.

FAQs

Q1: How is this different from the Pet Tent Backpack, which also has a luggage sleeve?

A: The Pet Tent Backpack expands sideways into a tent when you stop — it's for people who want extra floor space at the destination. This one doesn't expand; instead it's larger to begin with (8kg capacity), rigid rather than soft, and has the roll-down privacy curtain and full drop-down front door. Choose the tent if you want space when parked, and this one if you want a bigger, more structured bag for a pet who'd rather not be looked at.

Q2: Why a curtain instead of a clear bubble window?

A: Bubble carriers put your cat on display and offer nothing between them and direct sun. The curtain lets you choose: roll it up for a confident pet who wants to watch, roll it down for one who finds crowds and traffic overwhelming, or use it as shade on a bright day. The mesh underneath keeps airflow either way.

Q3: What size pet does it fit?

A: Cats and dogs up to 8kg. The interior is 36.5 × 24.5 × 43cm, which is tall and wide enough to stand up and turn around in. Measure your pet standing and lying stretched out rather than going by weight alone — a long-bodied 6kg cat needs more floor than a compact 8kg dog.

Q4: It's 1334g — is that heavy to carry?

A: It's the heaviest bag in our range, because the EVA panels and fibreboard base are what stop it collapsing on your pet. With an 8kg pet inside you're carrying roughly 9.3kg, so the 3cm air-cotton back panel and wide padded straps matter. If you mostly do short walks with a smaller cat, a lighter soft carrier will suit you better — this one is built for travel days and longer trips.

Q5: What is the drop-down front door for?

A: Unzip both front zips and the panel folds down to ground level as a soft padded mat. At a picnic or a rest stop your pet can lie half-in, half-out on their own bedding rather than being lifted onto grass or concrete — much easier on a cat who won't willingly leave the bag. Always keep them tethered or harnessed when the door is open.

Q6: Can I wear it on my chest?

A: Yes — front carry works and the front mesh window opens so you can watch them, reach in for a pat or pass a treat through. Given the size and weight, most people will find back carry more comfortable for anything beyond short stretches.

Q7: Does it really fit on a suitcase handle?

A: The rear sleeve fits 24–28 inch cases. Check your case's handle width before you rely on it — handle spacing varies between brands even at the same case size. The same sleeve takes a car seat belt through it so the bag doesn't slide across the seat.

Q8: Can I take it on a plane?

A: At 43cm tall it is well above the under-seat height airlines allow, so it is not a cabin carrier. It's designed for the drive, the terminal and the trip — not the seat. For flights see our Airline-Approved Pet Carrier Tote or Expandable Cat Carrier for 2 Cats, and confirm dimensions with your airline before booking.

Q9: Is the seat-belt sleeve a crash restraint?

A: No. Threading the belt through the sleeve stops the bag sliding around the seat under normal driving, but it has not been crash tested and should not be treated as a safety restraint. For crash protection, use a certified pet car restraint.

Q10: How do I clean it?

A: Wipe the nylon shell with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then air dry in the shade. Don't machine wash the bag or soak the fibreboard base or the EVA panels.

Q11: Do you ship across Australia?

A: Yes — HiDREAM Australia ships Australia-wide, including all metro and regional addresses.
